Wanted / Death Race / Doomsday

Wanted Loosely based on the comic book miniseries of the same by Mark Millar and J.G. Jones, Wanted, directed by Timur Bekmambetov, follows anxiety-prone office drone Wesley Gibson (James McAvoy) as he is inducted into the Fraternity, a clan of powerful killers that counted his father as a member. Pursued by rogue agent Cross (Thomas Kretschmann), Wesley is trained by the sleek, sexy Fox (Angelina Jolie) and the charismatic Sloan (Morgan Freeman), among others, to be just as proficient and deadly as his father. Once Wesley becomes a master assassin, he must confront Cross, and contend with the stunning ramifications of that encounter. Straying rather far from the Wanted comic's supervillain-centric premise, Wanted runs with the edgy Eastern European aesthetic of Russian helmer Bekmambetov, who garnered international recognition with the stylish vampire epic Night Watch. While Jolie is a gleefully destructive presence in her action-heavy scenes, the film belongs to McAvoy, who transforms from milquetoast to man hunter with verve and charm. And like the similarly themed The Matrix before it, Wanted also showcases some eye-catching special effects, most notably in the loopy concept of 'curving bullets'. Though devotees of the Wanted comic may be dismayed with the many liberties taken with the story, the movie is undeniably energetic and entertaining, making it fun summer blockbuster fare. Death Race Producer Roger Corman's cult classic film Death Race 2000 gets a millennium overhaul with director Paul W.S. Anderson (Event Horizon, Resident Evil) behind the wheel. Jason Statham (The Transporter, The Bank Job) plays Jensen Ames, a prisoner who is serving a sentence for a crime that he didn't commit. But in this futuristic society, Ames can compete for his freedom with a victory in a brutal three-day race. Joan Allen (The Ice Storm, The Bourne Supremacy), Tyrese Gibson (Baby Boy, 2 Fast 2 Furious) and Ian McShane (Hot Rod, TV's Deadwood) co-star in this high octane chase film. Doomsday 27 years after the deadly reaper virus kills millions, the disease erupts in London and threatens to wipe out the entire population. Hope lies with an elite fighting unit led by the deadly and beautiful Major Sinclair (Rhona Mitra)... but they have only 48 hours to find a cure in a devastated post-apocalyptic zone controlled by murderous gangs with a taste for human flesh! Loaded with ferocious fights, cannibal carnage and hair-raising chases, Doomsday grabs you by the throat and won't let go until the explosive end! Also stars Sean Pertwee (Dog Soliders), David O'Hara (Wanted), Bob Hoskins (Unleashed) and Malcolm McDowell (Halloween).

Isky: Ed Iskenderian and the History of Hot Rod...
18,47 € *
ggf. zzgl. Versand

Delve into the life of Ed Iskenderian, a gifted machinist with a natural knack for promotion, who started a cam business from the ground up and became a leading cam authority and hot rodding icon.Isky: Ed Iskenderian and the History of Hot Rodding, tells the whole story, including his pre-war Lake Muroc and car club activities, his military service, how he started a small business fabricating parts and making cams in the back of a rented shop, and how he then sold those cams to other rodders. It covers how he grew a business from a single cam grinder and became an authority in the field in barely 10 years. To tell the life story of Ed 'Isky' Iskenderian is to tell the history of hot rodding in America. Ed was there from the very beginning. Born in 1921 to first-generation Armenian immigrants, Ed's first hobby was ham radio, but like many young men in the years before World War II, his interest turned to automobiles, especially hot rods. Ed had natural skills in metal working and machining that were developed in high school. He wanted to further develop those skills, so he joined the Air Corps to continue his education and flew with Air Transport Command. By the time Ed was out of the service, the California hot rod scene was in full bloom with tens of thousands of vets who had the desire to make cars go fast. Ed was an early pioneer in the industry for print adverting and catalogs. He purchased an ad in the second issue of Hot Rod magazine. Sensing something big, his instincts, as always, were right. He was also the first to use T-shirts and uniforms as promotion. Ed was also among the first to understand the value of having successful race cars using his cams in their engines and wearing his decals on their fenders. The biggest names in the racing industry were running Isky cams, and Ed made sure the world knew it.Ed's company name went on to become one of the household names in the performance community. His continued success is an entertaining tale of mingling with industry icons, insight into the business of hot rodding, great stories of yesterday and today, and a life very well lived. You will enjoy the stories recorded here as much as Ed 'Isky' Iskenderian seems to enjoy telling them.
